Choosing between the Sony WH-1000XM6 and Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 Wireless isn't really about which headphone is simply “better”. Both are premium wireless headphones, but they excel in different areas.

The Sony focuses heavily on noise cancellation, portability and everyday convenience, while the Sennheiser puts greater emphasis on sound, battery endurance and long-term ownership.

Sound Quality

Sony WH-1000XM6 — Warm, Punchy & Fun

The WH-1000XM6 delivers a warm and energetic sound with plenty of mid-bass punch. Vocals remain detailed, while its surprisingly spacious soundstage makes it enjoyable across pop, electronic, R&B and everyday listening.

Sony also provides a 10-band EQ, giving you plenty of room to customise the sound to your preference.

Choose Sony if you like: punchy bass, warm vocals and an energetic everyday sound.

Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5 — Powerful, Detailed & Immersive

The MOMENTUM 5 takes a different approach with its larger 42mm drivers, delivering powerful sub-bass alongside crisp, detailed vocals and treble.

For listeners who love tweaking their sound, its 8-band parametric EQ provides extensive control, while Dolby Atmos spatial audio and head tracking add another dimension with compatible content.

Choose Sennheiser if you like: deep sub-bass, crisp detail and greater sound customisation.

Noise Cancellation

This is where the Sony WH-1000XM6 takes the lead.

Sony uses a 12-microphone system together with its HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3 and Integrated Processor V2. It's particularly effective at reducing aircraft, train and office noise.

The MOMENTUM 5's 8-microphone adaptive hybrid ANC is still very capable for everyday use, but its noise cancellation isn't as aggressive as Sony's.

Battery Life

This one goes decisively to Sennheiser.

Sony WH-1000XM6:
Up to 30 hours with ANC ON and 40 hours with ANC off. A quick 3-minute charge can provide around 3 hours of listening.

Sennheiser MOMENTUM 5:
Up to an impressive 57 hours with ANC ON, with approximately 7 hours of playback from a 10-minute charge. Its 700mAh battery is also user-replaceable.

Comfort & Portability

Frequent travellers will probably appreciate the Sony more.

At approximately 254g, the WH-1000XM6 is lighter and folds inward into a compact hard case, making it easy to fit into your backpack or carry-on.

The MOMENTUM 5 weighs around 290g and folds flat rather than inward. Its plush earpads and weight distribution make it comfortable, but it takes up a little more space.
